The San Francisco Golden Gaters were charter members of in 1974 and one of that league's most successful franchises at the gate and on the court. Though they were established in San Francisco they wound up playing across the bay at the Oakland-Alameda Coliseum. As such, they did not use San Francisco or Oakland in their name, marketing themselves as simply the Golden Gaters. The team folded in 1979 when only the Phoenix Racquets were prepared to join the Golden Gaters in what would have been WTT's sixth season.
